God’s Own Child

Galatians 4:6-7

Scripture:

6 And because you Gentiles have become his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, and now you can call God your dear Father. 7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, everything he has belongs to you. (Galatians 4:6-7 NLT)

Observation and Application:

How do we know we are truly God’s own children?  I can’t always tell by my behavior or by how I feel.  If being God’s own child depended on me always doing exactly what he tells me to do, I wouldn’t make it.  If it depended on always feeling like I’m his child, I wouldn’t make it.  I don’t always do the right things or feel right the right way.

The fact that I am truly a child of God is based on the truth that he loves me and accepts me into his family.  My feelings of acceptance are sometimes stronger and sometimes weaker.  But Father God has sent his Son’s Spirit into my heart and he always cries out to God as a loving Father.  I am God’s own child and I’ve got to take my cue from God’s Spirit within me and not from my feelings or from my current behavior.

Prayer:

Father, thanks for sending the Spirit of your Son Jesus Christ into my heart and thanks Holy Spirit for always crying out to our dear Father in confident faith and trust even when I don’t feel worthy.  Amen.
